From Storytelling to Strategy

PEOPLE. PERSPECTIVE. PURPOSE.

My career began with a simple fascination: the power of a well-told story.

I started in journalism at The Nassau Guardian, becoming the youngest female reporter hired by the newspaper at the time. What began on the sports desk expanded into reporting across news, business, crime and lifestyle—an experience that taught me how to ask the right questions, find the story beneath the surface, and communicate complex information clearly.

I later relocated to Dallas, Texas, to attend Paul Quinn College, where I continued writing while earning a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications and graduating magna cum laude.

My work appeared across print and digital publications and deepened the skills that would become the foundation of my career: curiosity, research, audience awareness, and storytelling with purpose.

Those skills eventually took me beyond the newsroom and into marketing and communications, where I discovered that storytelling could do more than inform—it could shape perception, influence behaviour, and move organizations forward.

Strategic Communications & Marketing

For over 20 years, my career has evolved across journalism, corporate marketing, public relations, strategic communications, and public affairs in The Bahamas, the Caribbean, and the United States.

I have held marketing roles with internationally recognized organizations, including Sandals & Beaches Resorts and Heineken-affiliated Commonwealth Brewery Limited, where my work spanned brand communications, consumer engagement, digital marketing, and data-informed campaign strategy.

In 2013, I founded Poitier Marketing & P.R. Group, through which I lead communications and marketing strategy for organizations across healthcare, financial services, energy, hospitality and other sectors. My work encompasses media relations, reputation management, executive communications, stakeholder and community engagement, integrated campaigns, and crisis communications.

Today, my work also extends into the public sector as a Communications Consultant supporting Inter-American Development Bank-funded initiatives within The Bahamas Ministry of Health & Wellness. In that role, I develop communications strategies for national health programmes and infrastructure projects; prepare speeches, talking points, and briefing materials for senior government officials; lead national media engagement; support digital communications; and engage with government, international development partners, and community stakeholders.

Throughout every chapter of my career, writing has remained at the centre of what I do. From journalism and brand storytelling to speeches, public-sector communications and executive messaging, I believe the strongest communications begin with understanding what needs to be said, why it matters, and how to make people care.
